How many times a day can I take herbs?
"When using a new herb, begin with a recommended dosage and observe how your body reacts to it. If you do not receive the desired result, increase or decrease accordingly. when herbs are used for restoring health, dosages will need to be five to seven times that which is required for maintaining health. Depending of course on the ailment and the severity of it, approximately three months of sustained high dosage is usually required before the body is repaired. Sometimes it takes a full year fo reparation to occur so that a person goes through all four seasons. The science of Homeopathy teaches that it takes one month for every year of illness for the person to REBUILD the body." (Dr. Jack Ritchason, "The Little Herb Encyclopedia")

Are there side effects from taking herbs like there are in taking prescription medications?
Herbs are natural foods which work in harmony with our body. There are usually no side effects from herbs when taken according to directions on the container. Some people experience cleansing action on the body when first using herbs (such as nausea, diarrhea, aches, flu type symptoms, etc). It is this detoxifying process that helps bring the body into a state of health. Herbs are best taken an hour before or an hour after medications. Please check with your health-care provider for your individual situation.

Can I take more than one herb or herbal combination formula at the same time?
    Yes you can.

When should I stop taking herbs? As soon as I first notice relief?

A good rule is to continue using herbs until you have notice significant relief and then cut back your consumption by one-third for the same period you took to acquire the noticeable relief. If the symptoms of your health challenge return, you'll need to return to your original dosage for a while longer. Remember, herbs are food NOT pharmaceuticals.Their job is to cleanse and build the body. They work in a gentle, progressive process to supply nutrition to the cells. A good rule is to continue using herbs, in moderation. Herbs should be used throughout your life, not just when you are feeling a bit under the weather, but also in prevention.

Do I need to change my diet?
Not necessarily, however, it is advisable to avoid alcohol, soft drinks, smoking and the smoke of others around you (secondary smoke). Your diet should include fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. Just as important is to drink PURE WATER because the human body is mostly water. Recommendation on water is ~ drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily; i.e. -if you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces of water daily.

Can children take herbs or combinations?
Yes, children can take herbs in teas, capsules and combinations with good results. Nature's Sunshine has developed a specialty line for children's herbs and vitamins that takes into consideration their needs and ability to process the supplements in a comfortable way.
