- THE LIFELINE OF COMMUNICATION AND TRANSFORMATION FOR YOUR BODY
5 THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR PROPER THYROID FUNCTION
The Thyroid Basics…
-
It resembles a shield…a butterfly shaped organ on top of your trachea.
-
The largest of all your endocrine glands!
-
Produces hormones vital for metabolism (it is your thermostat).
-
Storehouse for the mineral Iodine.
-
It’s Siamese twin is the Adrenal Glands.
-
Thyroid controls everything above the neck and below!
Hormones Produced
-
Thyroxine (tetraiodothyronine or T4) iodine & derivative of l-tyrosine, stored as thyroglobulin.
-
Triiodothyronine (T3) iodine again, comes from thyroglobulin & is several times the activity of thyroxine. T4 is converted to T3 in the body.
-
Calcitonin lowers calcium/phosphorus opposite of parathyroid glands.
-
The hormones listed above stimulate specific organs, tissues and all cells.
-
Affects energy (or lack of it), food metabolism, the immune system, skeletal growth, sexual development, skin, and hair.
Hyperthyroid
-
Hyperthyroidism: too much activity, increases metabolism. Symptoms: nervousness, heart palpitations, restless, weight loss, and insomnia.
-
Goiter: enlargement of thyroid due to an iodine deficiency.
Hypothyroid
-
Hypothyroidism: Deficient thyroid activity. Symptoms: drowsiness, fatigue, lethargy, weight gain (usually 5-10 lbs), scaly skin, and hair loss.
-
One of the best ways to check to see if your thyroid is imbalanced is to check your underarm temperature. Underarm body temp below 98.2 is an indicator of an imbalance. Click here for instructions on how to check your Basal Body temperature correctly.
Other Conditions
-
Thyroiditis – inflammation of the thyroid caused by a virus, bacteria, or an autoimmune reaction
-
Hashimoto’s – the body becomes allergic to they thyroid hormone and body's immune system starts to attch the thyroid causing degeneration of the tissue.
-
Thyrotoxic– occurs when a hyperthyroid condition goes untreated causing a “thyroid storm” which is usually brought on by a stress such as trauma or infection.
Things Are Not What They Always Appear To Be…
-
Consider Thyrotropin. A hormone secreted by the hypothalamus. This is called Thyrotropin Releasing Hormone (TRH). It acts on the pituitary gland. The pituitary then releases Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). This is what stimulates the thyroid into action. So does TSH sound like it tells you the function of the Thyroid itself? Not always…
-
“The TSH test is failing people. They are told their thyroid is ok, when many are suffering thyroid malfunction.” American J. of Medicine 2005;7: Supp2, page 5
Now for the 5 things
-
Cleanse
-
Emotions and Stress
-
Iodine
-
Diet and Exercise
-
Supplements
1st Thing is Cleanse
-
Toxic substances affect the Thyroid (i.e. Mercury which displaces Selenium).
-
Avoid the chemicals Bromide, Fluoride and Chlorine (not to be mistaken with the minerals fluorine and chlorine which actually are good for the Thyroid) ). They block iodine receptors in the thyroid gland. Less Iodine = less hormone production. Get a water filtration system and use a toothpaste without flouride!
-
Radiation treatments anywhere in the body sometimes settles in the thyroid (kelp helps draw it out)
-
Coffee and alcohol upset the glands.
-
Cleanse the whole body at least once a year.
-
Use the easy and effective Dieter’s Cleanse.
2nd things is Emotional Stress
-
Stress is a tourniquet on the body.
-
Emotional issues contribute to stress.Distress Remedy or Stress Relief TCM.
-
Have Thetahealing Session to unblock the emotions and beliefs that may be stuck in the thyroid.
-
Throat represents communication, articulation, and willpower. The thyroid gland is an emotional gland.
3rd Thing is Iodine
-
Iodine is king and critical for thyroid and the rest of your body!
-
Jonathan V. Wright M.D. states “you need 83 times more of this essential, cancer fighting nutrient than the experts say you do”.
-
Good for breast, ovarian and prostate health.
-
Dr. Abraham UCLA is pushing the RDA for 12.5 milligrams daily. (Your thyroid needs 6-7 mg alone)
4th Thing is Diet & Exercise
-
ALWAYS EAT BREAKFAST! Protein is important, not only for blood sugar regulation and energy but also this is what jump starts your pituitary to put out TSH. No breakfast, no thyroid…
-
Whole foods and foods high in Vitamin B.
-
Blood type diet is very good to aid the thyroid
-
Exercise 30-60 min. day 3 to 5X a week.
-
Vitamine D3. Most of us aren't getting the amount of time needed in the sun to get our natural dose of vitamin D3 and of course there are issues with getting too much sun so it's easier and safer to use a Vitamin D3 supplement (immunity and calcium metabolism). Even light therapy!
5th thing is Supplements
-
Remember the Thyroid is the lifeline between the head and the body. It can make a difference in many aspects of health, even intelligence!
-
Work with the Adrenals.
-
Follow the 5 things for a healthy thyroid!
